iRobot Roomba 675 Review 2019

Ugh, cleaning.

I, for one, absolutely hate it. Even though my friends and family call me a “clean-freak” and as much as I love the feeling of a clean home, it’s the process that I loathe.

There’s nothing that makes my skin crawl with disgust more than having to get off the couch, fire up the noisy, cumbersome vacuum cleaner and labor around with it, pointlessly.

Why pointlessly? Well, thanks to my family, my pets and visitors, I’ll have to repeat the process in three days because of all the dirt they track in!

What if there were a way to ease the task of cleaning? Well, now there is with the Roomba 675, the latest automatic vacuum cleaner from iRobot.

Hi, I’m Heather, an interior designer by profession, and this is my review of the innovative Roomba 675, a potentially game-changing product.

So let’s get started!

iRobot Roomba 675 Robotic Vacuum Reviews 2019: Why should you buy it?

Design and Features

roomba 675 reviewKicking off with the form factor, the Roomba 675 is shaped a bit like a UFO, sort of like a flying saucer.

But that’s a good thing as iRobot’s engineers and designers have clearly put some thought into the Roomba’s design because form and function go hand-in-hand here.

As the Roomba is designed to clean under furniture, it needs to be particularly petite; hence, the short height. This also means that the Roomba doesn’t take much space up in the house. The face features a “Clean” button, a “Dock” button, and a “Spot” button.

Underneath the Roomba, you’re greeted by a systematically laid-out collection of knick-knacks. Starting with the wheels, they’re arranged on either side of the Roomba and are fairly chunky. This allows the machine to transition from hard floors to carpets and cross ledges easily.

Apart from the wheels, you’ll find an edge-sweeping brush on one corner which protrudes a bit off the circumference. Roomba claims that the brush is angled at 27 degrees for efficient cleaning.

Next, we have the horde of sensors. The Roomba features two kinds: dirt-detect sensors which enable it to focus on areas where dirt is concentrated, and cliff-detect sensors which prevent it from falling over stairs and drops.

Usage and Functionality

irobot roomba 675 reviewThe Roomba 675 features three cleaning modes: loosening, lifting, and sucking dirt, dust, debris, and just about anything your house can throw at it. To facilitate these modes, it features two main brushes: one for loosening and the other for lifting/sucking, aided by a self-leveling head which raises and lowers the brushes in accordance with the surface it’s being used on.

Too complex? Don’t worry; the upshot is that the Roomba cleans all sorts of particles with exceptional efficiency and effectiveness. Even M&M’s are sucked up like nobody’s business!

The aforementioned dirt-concentration sensor works well and makes the machine work exactly where there is a lot of dirt.

Speaking of sensors, just for fun, I made the Roomba go down a path with stairs in it, and hey presto, it detected a drop instantly! This is a useful feature to have if your house has an unexpected drop-off and you accidentally chart out the wrong course for the product.

Lastly, the edge-sweeping brush is an absolute boon. Angled at 27 degrees, it cleans all the muck, dirt, grime and dust from those icky edges to the extent that the brush gets into places where even full-blown vacuum cleaners can’t get into!

Connectivity

irobot 675 reviewA distinguishing feature of the Roomba 675 is its excellent connectivity. iRobot makes its own app for the Roomba, which is available on both iOS and Android.

Moreover, to boost connectivity, the device is also compatible with both Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant, which means you’re never more than a voice command away from a clean floor!

Lastly, the app allows you to schedule and initiate cleanings remotely, which is useful if you’re on the move.

Build Quality

In my experience, the Roomba felt made out of premium materials, including the quality of the plastics. Moreover, it also felt very sturdy in its operation, and given that it might pick up a ding or two with so many people and objects in the house, I don’t think it’ll be too much of a problem.

What Could’ve Been Better?

Glitches

A few users have reported that the Roomba does not do what it is expected to do at times. For example, some users have had issues with the auto-docking function, which does not make the Roomba do anything at times.

However, iRobot has assured me that the issues have been addressed and were mere software glitches, and given that I’ve had no issues myself, I’m inclined to agree.

No Siri Integration

Apple users might feel a little left out, given that it does not integrate with Apple’s Siri. However, while a little inconvenient, the Roomba app is a decent substitute.

Verdict

The Roomba 675 is a superb value-for-money product that offers a ton of features at a very competitive price.

It utilizes state-of-the-art hardware to make cleaning floors, carpets and edges a breeze and the sensors ensure that it cleans up the most stubborn particles without falling over drops.

Moreover, the Roomba’s form factor is such that it is unlikely to trip anyone over while at the same time, is short enough to clear most furniture. The connectivity suite adds a much-needed layer of convenience to the experience.

For these reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend the Roomba 675 as your next cleaner.
